Q: Is Scott a talent agent, casting director or manager?
A: No. If you are aspiring talent seeking representation and/or if you have questions about the voice over industry, please read this perspective on the business from one of its leading actors. Additional helpful resources can be found here.
Q: Is Scott's studio equipped with ISDN so that he can be directed during sessions in real-time?
A: Via Source-Connect (within Pro Tools), Scott's studio can operate seamlessly with ISDN and other IP codecs via bridging partners. Respectively, its high-speed Internet connection meets the minimum VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) requirements of 300kbps upload/download. Therefore, from their own Pro Tools and/or ISDN-enabled studios, producers can direct Scott while he performs remotely from his home studio, optionally conferencing clients into sessions by phone.
Q: What are Scott's rates?
A: For work done from his studio, Scott can be booked for as little as $150 USD. For sessions recorded at other studios, rates are negotiable depending on Scott's availability but normally run bit higher; approaching AFTRA Category I scale. Please note, rates also depend on whether projects are broadcast (what spot formats run where and for how long) vs. non-broadcast, also commercial/character work vs. narration. Lastly, in some cases variables like total rights buyouts and performance/recording time vs. editing/production time can factor into project costs. Please contact Scott for a custom quote based on your brief project description.
Q: Can Scott be booked at fixed-cost?
A: Easily. For example, small project costs can often be capped to a few hundred dollars. Additionally, fixed-cost pricing can be helpful for larger, multi-phase and/or ongoing projects that require service over the long term (e.g. Flash presentations requiring periodic updates). Please contact Scott for a quote based on your brief project description.
Q: How much lead time is needed before booking a project, and how fast can audition clips be turned around?
A: When requested, auditions normally can be turned around overnight. For booking a project session, Scott typically requires 48 hours advance notice. However, he can sometimes turn small projects around in less than 24 hours (e.g. overnight). It's all just depending on his availability when you send your inquiry.
Q: I would like Scott to audition for my project. What's next?
A: To have him make his audition clip of up to 30 seconds runtime, please send Scott your script or excerpt thereof via email along with a brief project description and creative direction, and delivery preferences if any: Scott's auditions can be provided either as downloadable watermarked audio files or as non-downloadable audio file without watermarking.
Q: When recorded and produced from Scott's studio, how is product subsequently delivered?
A: Finished audio files can be provided for download from Scott's FTP space or, if you prefer, uploaded to yours. Alternatively, files can be shipped on physical media (e.g. CD-R).
Q: How are billing and payments handled?
A: For projects done from his studio, Scott issues invoices and accepts payments on net 30 terms via PayPal or checks made out to "Subterreign Media". For sessions done at other studios, payment on-site upon job completion is appreciated.
Q: Does Scott ever work for non-monetary compensation or pro-bono?
A: Sometimes, yes. For example, for registered non-profits promoting socio-political causes of which he is or can be personally supportive, Scott is happy to work for free or perhaps in exchange for link(s) to his website(s) etc. ... If you feel your project(s) might be applicable please email him to get in touch.
Q: Can Scott be booked via any indirect means?
A: At this time he cannot be booked through any third party, nor can he be booked through any other website.
Q: What if my project requires multiple voice over actors?
A: Scott's isolation booth is made with accommodating the single performer in mind, so multiple audio sources can't physically be recorded within that space at the same time. However, for sessions not based in San Francisco he is able to optionally work remotely via VOIP which makes him available to sessions also using other actors performing from other studios simultaneously.
Q: Separately, does Scott provide related services such as scriptwriting, direction, sound design or engineering?
A: Currently, Scott only accepts projects for which his primary if not only role is to work as male voice over talent. In cases where projects are to be recorded and produced out of his home studio, he can sometimes also provide sound effects and/or music if/as the needs as such are pretty simple. For projects to be recorded from other studios, he is available as a voice over actor only.
Q: Is Scott available to host Webinars or sing jingles?
A: Not at this time.
