Q: Is Scott a talent agent, casting director or producer?
A: No. He is talent represented by an agent. Casting directors and producers are clients.
If you are aspiring talent interested in the voice over industry, know that it's a fun one but it is hard work and it's definitely competitive. Getting into and then staying in it to any degree does require perserverence, patience and dedication. You might want to read this perspective on the business from one of its most prominent actors. Additional resources can be found here.
Q: Is Scott currently union or non-union talent?
A: Non-union. He can work any projects that are not reserved for union actors, and doesn't collect residuals or reap other benefits that union members do. Rather, he works per upfront-negotiated quotes; flat or sliding scale fees.
Q: What is Scott's availability?
A: He is currently a full-time freelancer. Auditioning or booking him can sometimes be done same-day but typically is done at least a day in advance.
Q: What are Scott's rates?
A: Beyond being generally industry standard, his rates are negotiable. Moreover, his availability and workload does vary week-to-week, month-to-month etc. so he doesn't keep or publish hard minimums. Likewise, project scopes can be negotiable and variable (e.g. anything from a batch of 5-second promos to a couple hours' narration), so he has different fee structures for different types. Please request a custom quote based on your brief project description:
1. Process: Do you need him to record from his studio or another studio? While recording, will he be directed by someone else in real-time or will he be self-directed?
2. Content: Will it be commercial, character or narration work? What's the script's word count and/or how many hours do you expect to need him?
3. Usage: Please specify if the end product will be used in broadcast media (TV/radio) or not. If the former, please include how many times the spot will run and in what market.
4. Timing: How soon do you need your project completed?
Q: Is Scott's studio equipped with ISDN?
A: Instead of for dedicated ISDN, Scott's studio network has been configured and tested for support of Source-Connect from within Pro Tools, which can optionally operate with ISDN and other IP codecs via bridging partners. Its high-speed Internet connection meets the minimum VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) requirements of 300kbps upload/download. While not currently a Source-Connect license holder on account of historically needing it infrequently, Scott can however easily rent access in the meantime, else obtain a full license at any time whenever need arises.
Q: What if my project requires multiple voice over actors?
A: Scott's isolation booth is made with accommodating the single performer in mind, so multiple audio sources can't physically be recorded within that space at the same time. However, for sessions not based in San Francisco he is able to optionally work remotely via VOIP which makes him available to sessions also using other actors performing from other studios simultaneously.
Q: When recorded from Scott's studio, how is product subsequently delivered?
A: Finished audio files can be provided for download from Scott's FTP space or, if you prefer, uploaded to yours. Alternatively, files can be shipped on physical media (e.g. CD-R).
Q: How are billing and payments handled?
A: Tonry Talent handles billing for all work Scott does as booked through them. If/as projects are booked through Scott directly he issues invoices on Net 30 terms, payable to "Subterreign Media" via either check or PayPal.
Q: Separately, does Scott provide related services such as scriptwriting, direction, sound design or engineering?
A: Currently, he only accepts projects for which his primary if not only role is to work as male voice over talent. In cases where projects are to be done out of his home studio, he can sometimes also provide sound effects and/or music if/as the needs as such are pretty simple. For projects to be recorded from other studios, he is available as a voice over actor only.
Q: Does Scott ever work for non-monetary compensation or pro-bono?
A: Occasionally, however only if/when booked via direct inquiry. Though rarely, he occasionally works on spec (absent funding, upsides of such projects being opportunities for networking, backlinks to his site(s) etc.). Additionally, he does consider chances to do discounted or unpaid work for registered non-profits promoting socio-political causes of which he is or can be personally supportive. If you feel your project(s) might apply please get in touch.
